2. What is domain name?
A domain name is the standard website address on the Internet. It is a unique
address on the Internet and generally domain names start with www such as
www.beewhois.com. Like any website address, it is important for the success of
your personal use or your business that you use, promote and protect it so that
web users can find you easily. More than this, your domain name is your
online-identity and brand - your customers won't just know you as Your Company
Inc., they will know you as "yourcompany.com". A domain name is also sometimes
refered as URL.
A URL, or Uniform Resource Locator, is the location of a file on the Web. When
you type the address of a Web page into your browser, you are typing a URL. The
most common format of a URL is illustrated by the URL of this page: http://www.beewhois.com/domain-faq.php.
The purpose of Domain name is to allow users connected to the Internet the
ability to find web sites without having to memorize the long, numerical (IP)
addresses that actually locate the computers or servers on the Internet.
Computers find each other by using a set of numbers called an IP Address (IP is
an acronym for Internet Protocol), these look like 64.72.214.243. The Domain
Name System (DNS) is a set of software and computers that translates domain
names into their matching IP addresses and visa versa.
When you type www.beewhois.com into your web-browser, your request gets resolved
(or converted) into an IP address and the information found at that address gets
delivered back to your browser.
3. How is BeeWhois.com related to domain names?
BeeWhois.com helps users to find more information the domain without going to
the website itself. BeeWhois.com helps users to identify what are the domains
that are still available for purchase and what are the domain that has been
taken.
4. What are the valid characters for booking a Domain Name?
The domain name must conform to Standard rules for domain names:
Only characters in the range of A to Z, 0 to 9 and hyphen are allowed.
Names cannot begin or end with a hyphen.
The maximum length is 63 characters (exclusive of the .com, .org, .net portion).
5. What is DNS?
DNS, an abbreviation of the Domain Name System (or Service or Server ), is a
mechanism of the internet that translates domain names into IP addresses.
Because domain names are alphabetical, they're easier to remember. The Internet
however, is really based on IP addresses . Every time you use a domain name,
therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP
address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to
198.105.232.4 .
It's a bit like a speed dial on your phone. You might click a
button marked "Mother" but it gets translated into 01234 567890 to make the
call. Domain names and IP addresses work in a similar manner.
6. Why are domain names important to the respective owners?
A domain name is the name by which a person or an organisation's presence is
identified on the internet. For example the Cable News Network uses cnn.com and
Toyota uses toyota.com
Your choice of domain name can have a big impact on the image
and prestige of your company and also has an influence on the success of your
activities on the world wide web. At present there is not a great deal of
regulation controlling who can have what domain name. This is good in one sense
since it gives a company freedom to choose the most appropriate name. However it
also means that the name or names you want can easily be registered by someone
else, even if those names have less relevance to them than to you.
7. What are the different components of a domain name?
A domain name is a combination of two or more words. The last word is called
"Top Level Domain". A Top-Level Domain (TLD) is the suffix that is attached to
the end of a domain name. For instance, in the domain name, beewhois.com, ".com"
is the TLD. Generic Top Level Domains (gTLD) such as .com, .org, .net, can be
registered by anybody. To the left of TLD comes "Second Level Domain"(SLD). e.g.
in 'beewhois.org', beewhois is the second level domain, '.com' is the TLD. One
can also have 'domains.beewhois.com', here 'domains' is called the host name or
"Third Level Domain". BeeWhois.com can only get the data of the Top-Level Domain
Whois information. Currently, there is no Second Level Domain Whois information
available yet. For example, if you type "mycomputerandschool.blogspot.com" ,
BeeWhois.com can only retrieve Blogspot.com domain name.
8. What is the difference between TLD's i.e. .com, .org and .net?
There is no significant difference between the 3 TLD's. These are just a few
options and you can even avail all of them as 3 separate domain registrations.
Now you can also register biz, info, .us, .cc, .tv, .co.in etc domains. Thus it
becomes easier for you to get a particular domain name that was already
registered in the previously available TLDs.
9. Who is a Registrant?
The Registrant is the individual or organisation who registers a domain name.
This person, after certain conditions are met, and upon payment of the
registration fees, holds the right to use that specific domain name for a
specified period of time. This person is the "legal entity" bound by the terms
of the Registration Agreement. The Registrant is in technical terms the "SLD
holder". This stands for the holder of a Second Level Domain.
10. What are the 3 Contacts Admin, Technical and Billing?
These fields list the contact details of the people to be contacted for each of
the three functions relating to the Domain Name.
11. How can I change the information in the Contacts later?
If you are the owner of the domain name, please go to the website or registrar
that you purchase from to change and modify. BeeWhois.com only offer information
of the domain.
12. Who is a Registrar?
A Registrar is an organization that registers domain names on behalf of a
Registrant. Registrars must receive accreditation from
ICANN and be technically
certified by the Registry before they can register domain names in the Registry.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a technical
coordination body for the Internet. Created in October 1998 by a broad coalition
of the Internet's business, technical, academic, and user communities, ICANN is
assuming responsibility for a set of technical functions previously performed
under U.S. government contract by
IANA and other groups.
Specifically, ICANN coordinates the assignment of the following identifiers that
must be globally unique for the Internet to function:
Internet domain names
IP address numbers
protocol parameter and port numbers
In addition, ICANN coordinates the stable operation of the Internet's root
server system.
As a non-profit, private-sector corporation, ICANN is dedicated to preserving
the operational stability of the Internet; to promoting competition; to
achieving broad representation of global Internet communities; and to developing
policy through private-sector, bottom-up, consensus-based means. ICANN welcomes
the participation of any interested Internet user, business, or organization.
13. What is an IP address?
An IP address is a numeric address associated with every computer on the
Internet to identify its location. As an example it is much easier to remember
netlynx.com than its IP address, which could be 69.72.214.243 (IP stands for
Internet Protocol).
The Internet Protocol (IP) is the method or protocol by which data is sent from
one computer to another on the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the
Internet has at least one IP address that uniquely identifies it from all other
computers on the Internet. When you send or receive data (for example, an e-mail
note or a Web page), the message gets divided into little chunks called packets.
Each of these packets contains both the sender's Internet address and the
receiver's address. Any packet is sent first to a gateway computer that
understands a small part of the Internet. The gateway computer reads the
destination address and forwards the packet to an adjacent gateway that in turn
reads the destination address and so forth across the Internet until one gateway
recognizes the packet as belonging to a computer within its immediate
neighborhood or domain. That gateway then forwards the packet directly to the
computer whose address is specified.
Registering suitable domain names on the internet will
provide you with unique identifiers for your company, brand, products, etc. Once
registered, the domain remains yours until it is expired..
As there are many companies with similar names, it is
important to register a suitable domain name for your company as soon as
possible. The most popular domains in the internet community are the UK (.co.uk)
and the US/International (.com) domain names. The rules of registration for both
of these used to allow an individual, or company, to buy any domain name
regardless of any relevance to their name or trademarks outside the internet
medium. That is less true nowadays as large corporations try to protect their
expensively marketed image and brand names but it is still relatively a
free-for-all environment.
As part of our service we help you to select possible names
and check out if the names that interest you are available. And if the names you
want are already taken we will help to identify suitable alternatives for you.
What are the domains that I can register?
Using keywords in domain names
Whether your web site is a commercial one or not you probably have the
ambition for large numbers of visitors to visit your site. Otherwise why
bother in the first place? Some people will find your site because you tell
them what it is called. Maybe you put your domain name on your letter-head
and business card or on your sales brochures or even in big letters on the
side of a local bus. For these people it is best that the domain name you
give them is easily associated with the name of your company or organisation.
14. How do I know if a domain name is available?
Simply enter the domain name that you are interested to know or research in
the box provided and then click GO
On the page that gets returned you will either the details of the domain
name or if not nobody has registered the domain, and it is available for
purchase. BeeWhois.com does sell domain name, but we provide many use links
to website that offer domain name registration.
15. Do I need to have my domain name hosted straight away?
Web users are not required to have a hosting company before purchasing a
domain name. You securely register a domain at anytime if the domain is
available without hosting. BeeWhois.com does not provide hosting services,
however, we offer guidance to help to find a suitable web hosting company to
host your domain name.
16. How long does it take for DNS changes to take effect?
It may takes up to 24 hours for the name server changes to take effect and
fully propagate through the Internet. However, since early 2005, these changes
take hold within 15 minutes.
17. What are subdomains?
Consider subdomains as an extension of your domain. For example, your site
is www.example.com. A subdomain would be test.example.com, and another would be
webhosting.example.com. BeeWhois.com does not search information about sub
domain names.
18. What is the difference between a domain and a subdomain?
A domain name is a full website address totally independent of other domain
names, but a subdomain depends on a domain name. If for example "yourdomain.com"
is your domain name, then http://yourdomain.com and http://www.yourdomain.com
would be your domain name's address. A subdomain name would be a name under your
domain name, something like "sales.yourdomain.com". It's address would then be:
http://sales.yourdomain.com. It can say anything you want instead of "sales" and
the nice thing is that unlike a domain name, a subdomain does not need to be
registered. This will save you money.
19. Why BeeWhois.com not selling domain names?
BeeWhois.com is just a website to help web users find details of existing
domain names. If there are information of the domain, most likely the domain
name is available for registration
20. Can BeeWhois.com suggest which registrar and hosting company to help us with domain name registration and hosting?
There is a list of available registrar and hosting companies that you can choose from on the right hand side of the navigation bar. |
